Welcome to my teaching site! After 42 years of working in major American orchestras, I decided to come back home to North Carolina. I will be, for the time being, giving private cello lessons via Zoom from my Greensboro home. When it is safe to do so, the lessons will take place in my house, conveniently located right off Bryan Blvd and Jefferson Road. I have taught all ages for over 40 years, including at the college level while I was employed at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. I also offer orchestra audition coaching. I feel that I am uniquely qualified in that regard, having spend my years as a member of both the Houston Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony, as well as 30 years of working at the great Metropolitan Opera. I can teach cellists how to audition for both types of orchestras. I was a very successful audition taker myself, having been runner-up for the Chicago Symphony, The New York Philharmonic, The Atlanta Symphony, The Cincinnati Symphony, and a finalist for the Philadelphia Orchestra. I teach in the great tradition of Emanuel Feuermann and Gregor Piatigorsky. They were my musical grandfathers. My own teachers include the late Zara Nelsova, Laurence Lesser, Shirley Trepel, and the late Irving Klein. I was educated at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University.
